After decades of war and conflict Iraq is open for business. The Governor of Basrah, Dr Khalaf A.S.Khalaf was guest of honour at the Iraq Britain Business Council’s conference at London’s Mansion House where he told Western businessmen and officials and politicians from the UK government he wanted to make Basrah the number one trading centre for the whole of the Gulf region.
Delegates also heard from guest speaker Lord Robertson of Port Ellen that Iraq’s expectations were high and British Government Minister David Willetts who said the importance of education Iraq’s young people was a high priority. The UK Border Agency said it was opening a visa office in Baghdad so Iraqis can get their visas in Iraq rather than travel to countries such as Jordan.
